Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy, both formerly of Gong, formed System 7 in 1989. At this time Steve was working mainly as a record producer for other artists.
Hillage was recruited back to the music scene by Dr. Alex Paterson of The Orb. The two became friends, and Paterson encouraged him to begin recording ambient house, with Hillage's guitar explorations just as prominent in the mix as on his solo work. With System 7 moving more into techno and trance, Hillage and Giraudy later launched a chill-out and downtempo sister project called Mirror System. The new System 7 album is called "Café Seven" (2018). Expect an interesting mix of material from both projects.
