Dad Pierre Courbois is seen as one of the greatest jazz drummers in the Netherlands. He has collaborated with greats such as Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy and Bud Powell and he has also made a name for himself with his own Dutch Free Jazz Quartet at home and abroad. Son Barend Courbois is also known worldwide. Since 2015 he has been touring as a bass player with the German epic metal band Blind Guardian and he shares the stage with WCW, Vengeance and Action in DC. Both father and son have exactly the same timing and are closely connected. Both are not so fond of labels/pigeonholes: “We do rock things in a jazzy way and jazz things in a rocky way.”
