Eric Bibb

On 29 May American blues musician Eric Bibb, the son of folk singer Leon Bibb, will come to Cultuurpodium Boerderij! Bibb grew up in the New York folk scene in the sixties, surrounded by very talented people such as Peter Seeger and Paul Robeson, who were friends of the family. When he was only eleven he had a conversation with Bob Dylan, who advised him to "Keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff". And so he did. Although influenced by the New York sixties folks scene, Bibb always manages to come up with new material inspired by the old, often pre-war blues masters. Thanks to Bibb's in-depth study of the old masters the album Booker's Guitar (2011) is his best album ever, critics say.
The 60 year old American singer/guitarist and composer's acoustic blues appeals to a wide audience, in Europe as well as the US. Bibb has a reputation as a musician who both honours and rejuvenates the blues. His subtle guitar playing and creativity have opened new doors and have made Bibb indispensable part of the future of American roots music. Last March his latest album Deeper In The Well was released. In less than ten years Eric Bibb has become an old name in the blues world.
