Caravan

The Boerderij will roll out the welcome mat for British progressive rockers Caravan once more! The band, formed in 1967, disbanded a few times, but has drawn renewed attention in the last couple of years. In 2011 they played the prog stage of the High Voltage festival in London. In the same year a new live DVD was released in the Legends series and a re-release of the classic album In The Land Of Grey & Pink was put out (re-mastered by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, no man, The Steven Wilson Band, and Blackfield). In 2012 the band made a comeback during the International Caravan Convention, which was held at the Boerderij.
A bit of history: Caravan come from Canterbury, Kent in England. The bands from this part of the world, the so-called Canterbury scene, such as Caravan, Soft Machine, Gong, Robert Wyatt, National Health, Allan Holdsworth, Hatfield and the North, play a very recognisable type of progressive/psychedelic rock fused with lots of jazzy elements. Canterbury is often regarded as a prog rock subgenre. The original line-up consisted of Pye Hastings, Richard Sinclair, Dave Sinclair, and Richard Coughlan. The band went through quite a few personnel changes. The Sinclairs (who are cousins) left, came back and left again a few times, and through the years Geoffrey Richardson (violin, guitar, flute), Jan Schelhaas (keys), and Jim Leverton (bass) joined the ranks. The latest addition to the band is drummer Mark Walker, taking over for Richard Coughlan who unfortunately died in 2013. The last four, plus founding member Pye Hastings, form the line-up they will bring to The Netherlands.
