In 1995 Irish blues rock guitarist and singer Rory Gallagher sadly passed away at the age of 47. Gallagher was a legend in his own lifetime. In 2011 his former band mates Gerry McAvoy (bass) and Ted McKenna (drums) formed Band of Friends. Unfortunately we got the sad message that drummer Ted McKenna passed away on January 19. The concert will take place, but Ted will be replaced by John Martin.
Taking on the daunting task of playing and singing Rory’s parts is Dutch guitarist Marcel Scherpenzeel. Marcel Scherpenzeel grew up listening to Rory and it shows! Gerry McAvoy: “This is the closest guitarist to Rory you will ever hear…… when I heard Marcel I knew he had it all. Close your eyes and it’s there.” Bands of Friends is not a tribute to Rory Gallagher, but rather a celebration of Rory’s life and music, performed by musicians who we very close to him.
As a band Paardekooper is no longer unknown in the Blues circuit. In addition to his sublime guitar skills, Bas also has a great singing voice that touches you. Besides Bas Paardekooper the band consists of a solid rhythm section, formed by bass guitarist André de Bruijn and drummer Roel van Leeuwen. These guys have been playing together for 10 years now. Compact blues rock songs are interspersed with subtly executed ballads in which the fantastic guitar playing of Bas brings you to tears. Paardekooper stands for energy, there’s fire in every performance. Passion and musicality go hand in hand and it shows on stage.https://www.paardekooperband.com/
