The Flower Kings & Sound Of Contact

Old friends The Flower Kings will be visiting Cultuurpodium Boerderij in Zoetermeer on May 10th 2014. The arrival of this Swedish band in the nineties caused quite a stir in the world of symphonic rock. Formed by guitarist, composer and singer Roine Stolt, The Flower Kings played their first gig in August 1994 and went on to become one of the leading progressive rock outfits of the new millennium. After 2007 most band members devoted their time to various side projects, such as Agents of Mercy, Transatlantic, Karmakanic and The Tangent, but in 2012 they made a fantastic comeback with the album Banks of Eden and this year they released their latest studio album Desolation Rose.
What do they sound like? If you take Roine Stolt's characteristic and fluent guitar playing, and add Tomas Bodin's warm keyboard sound, Jonas Reingold's pumping bass runs, Felix Lehrmann's tight drum rolls and Hasse Fröberg's soulful voice, what you'll end up with is a kind of progressive rock that harks back to the seventies, with a melodic and symphonic rock sound that is also very contemporary and instantly recognizable. Their type of progressive rock is also laced with jazz, blues and heavy rock elements. We can recommend this concert to all who like Frank Zappa, The Beatles, Strawinski, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Genesis.
